Hi! My name is Trisha Smith. Back in 2009, my parents began working at the Cedar Valley Produce Auction. My mom started buying flower baskets for our yard in Stacyville, and pretty soon, people walking by began asking where she got her flowers and if they could buy some too. That gave her an idea—she started buying baskets and placing them in our yard to sell.
Around 2015 or 2016, Dad rented office space for his computer business, and Mom set up right outside, selling flowers off the back of a trailer. As demand grew, my parents decided to put up a small greenhouse in the town of Stacyville, sourcing all the flowers she needed from the auction.
It only took one season for them to realize they needed their own growing space. So in 2017, they built a 100-foot greenhouse right on our farm. After several years of growing at the farm and selling in Stacyville we moved out of town and just sold from the home place.
I’ve grown up surrounded by flowers, helping with everything from planting to selling—and over the years, I fell in love with the work.
Over the past year, my parents started talking about stepping back from the growing side of the greenhouse. The thought of not having flowers—or seeing the business fade—was something I just couldn’t imagine. That’s when I decided to step up and take over the business to keep it going and growing. As we discussed the decision for me to take over the business, we also considered the possibility of relocating to a nearby town. In February 2025, we met with the city council of Adams, MN to explore the option of selling in town. They welcomed the idea and generously offered us a temporary space for this year—on the basketball court in the city park. I’m truly enjoying every moment of this journey and am excited about the positive changes and growth we have planned for the year ahead.
