Hello, my name is John May. I graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 2020. From there, I attended Riverland Community College, majoring in Industrial Maintenance and Machine Repair for two years. My wife and I have been married for two years, and we currently live on an acreage near St. Ansgar. When I’m not working, I enjoy hunting, spending time with family and friends, and going on hikes and walks with my wife. I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands and building things out of steel in my free time. Unlike most people, I decided to try starting my own business in hopes of gaining some freedom from the typical 9-to-5 lifestyle. In 2023, I took the leap and opened May Welding LLC. At first, I worked out of my dad’s shop. I didn’t have much equipment or space at the time, but it was a great start! In June of 2024, I had the opportunity to purchase a large amount of equipment from a local family friend who was stepping back from his metal arts and crafts business. I jumped at the opportunity, bought the equipment, and began renting his shop, which is located in the small town of Stacyville, IA. That’s where most of my business now takes place, aside from a few art shows throughout the year. Currently, May Welding is entering its second year of business, offering a variety of services including custom signs, yard art, repair work, custom fabrication, and CNC plasma cutting. My main focus moving forward is to branch into more manufacturing work, developing my own high-ticket products, and building items for local businesses.
