Addy May

Hello! I’m Addy May, the owner of Addy May Photography and founding member of the Entrepreneurs of Iowa group! I’m married to my amazing husband, John May, who owns May Welding and is also part of the Entrepreneurs of Iowa crew. We’ve been married several years now, building a life and business that we love. This fall, we’re adding a brand-new addition. That’s right… our first little one! I have a feeling this baby is about to become the most photographed baby in Iowa! I (Addy) am the heart (and camera) behind Addy May Photography. I specialize primarily in senior portraits and wedding photography. My photography journey started way back in middle school when I spent my summers at photography camps and afternoons attending an online photography club. That’s when I first held a DSLR camera and thought, Oh, this is cool! But it wasn’t until college that I decided to go all in, buying my first professional-grade camera and diving headfirst into building a business that I love. When I’m not behind the camera, I’m in the classroom as a teacher — a role I love almost as much as photography. I’m also happiest when I’m in the kitchen baking up something delicious, or out at the lake soaking up the sun. If there are water skis involved, you can bet I’m the first one on the boat! Life’s all about finding joy in everyday life, and I try to live that way in everything I do. Over the years, I’ve learned that the magic of photography isn’t in stiff, posed shots — it’s in the real moments. The giggles. The glances. The in-between seconds that happen when people are just being themselves. I love giving my clients prompts or simply capturing them documentary-style, letting their personalities shine. Faith, family, and storytelling are the heartbeats of who I am and also help govern the decisions I make in my business. My goal is simple: create images that feel like you. Not overly posed or edited but true to life! The ones that make you smile every time you look at them, because they’re real. I’d be honored to help tell your story — and I promise, we’ll have a whole lot of fun along the way.
